How to Add Any Music to Your Instagram Stories

IG Stories can also be great places to share the music you're listening to – you just need to know how to add songs directly. I'll show you how in this tutorial.

How to Add Any Music to Your Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories are there to let you communicate in a variety of ways with your followers, and share less polished pictures and videos. One great Instagram Stories idea is to share the music you're listening to.

Your followers are always looking for new tracks and new artists, and people often post screenshots of their favorite music to share with their friends.

Even better: you can add music to any video that appears as an Instagram Story, whether it's a photo or a video, and give your followers a preview of your playlist. Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Find the song and the photo or video you want to add to your story
  2. Add the song to your photo or video in the Kapwing Studio
  3. Download your video and share it on your Story

Step 1: Find the song and the photo or video you want to add to your story

To post music on your Insta story, you'll need to have a photo or video to go with your audio. When you use Kapwing to add music, you can use photos or videos from almost anywhere. You copy the link to a video on YouTube, record one on your phone, or find your video from nearly any source on the web.

First, you need to upload a photo or video to Kapwing, as a backdrop for your music.

You can also use a photo as a backdrop for your audio track. Screenshots of an album cover, "now playing" screen, or tracklist work well for sharing your music, and they let your friends find the music you're sharing easily. For this example, I simply took a screenshot of my playback screen in Spotify.

Try these trending Instagram tools:

Step 2: Add the song to your photo or video in the Kapwing Studio

Now, navigate to Kapwing.com and click "Start Editing." This will take you to the Kapwing Studio, where you can click "Upload" to import the photo or video file you chose, or paste the link to the video you found online.

Import the song you want to share to the Kapwing Studio.

Give Kapwing a few seconds to upload your video. Once it's fully uploaded to the Studio, choose "Audio" from the toolbar along the upper edge of the screen. Now you can upload your music track the same way. Kapwing supports uploads from all kinds of music locations – YouTube, SoundCloud, Google Drive. For my example, I just copied the link to a music video on YouTube and pasted it in Kapwing's Audio window. If you want to use a specific part of the song to get your friends interested immediately, click "Trim Audio" and drag the sliders to frame the portion that you want to share.

Step 3: Download your video and share it on your Story

When your musical Instagram story is fully edited and ready to go, just hit "Publish" in the upper right-hand corner of the Studio. Give Kapwing a few seconds to process your video, and press "Download" once it's done processing. If you're running iOS on your device, you'll need to download the small Kapwing app from the App Store – it allows you to organize all your Kapwing files, store them for free in the cloud, and save them directly to your camera roll.

With your video saved to your camera roll, open Instagram and tap the "Your Story" button on the left of the Stories bar. Choose the Photo library button in the lower left corner and find your musical story – it should be the most recent thing in your camera roll. Once it's selected, you can add any edits you want using the Instagram Story tools, or you can share it directly to your followers, music and all!
